Preserving the Heritage of La Junta de los Ríos

The vision of the La Junta Heritage Center is to preserve and promote the history, art, culture, and environment at the confluence of the Rio Grande and Río Conchos – La Junta de los Ríos – through community involvement and public education in site-based historic and ecological restoration.
About the La Junta Heritage Center
The La Junta Heritage Center (LJHC) is an IRS-recognized 501c3 nonprofit organization with a 16-member board of directors. Board member Terry Bishop and his family have given LJHC a 99-year lease on 72 acres of their La Junta Farm for the Center. Bringing an Artist's Vision to Life
The La Junta Heritage Center sprang from the creative vision of A. Kelly Pruitt, renowned Western painter and sculptor, who spent his entire life in the region. Kelly died in early 2009, but not before sharing with friends his dream of a nonprofit organization whose mission
would combine art, history,
conservation, sustainable
building and
sustainable agriculture. His success in the art world coupled with his simple lifestyle provided him with the financial resources to endow what is now the La Junta Heritage Center.
